All you need is 1000 true fans.
Recently read an article from 2008 from Kevin Kelly, on how if you want to create a successful craft and make a living from it, all you need is 1000 true fans.
Here is what you DON'T need,
- A million dollars - A million customers - A million clients - A millions fans
These are things that we want for our projects, but they are not what we need for them to be successful.
All we need are 1000 true fans...
Here is the original article here if you're interested. I've always been a quality over a quantity person, and this small pocket of super fans is the same ideology I've always kept from the get go and its the ideology I keep moving forward and growing this newsletter.
Now on to this week issue 😘

I started Gumroad in 2011. In 2015, we reached a peak of 23 full-time employees. In 2016, after failing to raise more money, I ended up back where I began: a one-person company. Today, when I’m asked how many people work at Gumroad, I respond with “ten or so.” That’s how I convert the number of people we have into what others expect. But the truth is more complicated. Read more Selling a Tiny Project. Building tiny projects in my free time is something that I love to do. My main goal is to test out ideas that I note down in my phone. Sometimes they work and I make a bit of money, but usually they don’t. Either way, it's a fun hobby.
Recently I was lucky enough to sell a tiny website I'd built. Although the sale was small, the experience was great. Read more
Don't underestimate the power of a walk. Several years ago, I was watching a Today Show segment about helping your children and teens create healthy habits. The subject of the piece was a notable nutritionist, whose kids were reluctant to eat their greens and work up a sweat. The most memorable quote came from one of her pre-teens who said, “Walking makes me sad.” Read more | How are you going to reach customers.
